WINERY:
The castle built alongside the town of Montespertoli, today property of the Barons De Renzis Sonnino, was originally owned by the Montespertoli Lordship, a branch of the Counts of Alberti of Mangona. In 1393 this family of the Counts of Alberti of Mangona extinguished itself; the property was then passed to the Macchiavelli family. In the history of the castle, that ruled and owned over two thirds of the property of the town is concentrated a great deal of the artistic, cultural and literary heritage of Montespertoli. The Sonnino family purchased the Montespertoli estate in 1830, when it included over 870 hectares of land. Besides vines and olives there was also a cultivation of wheat and livestock. After many years of external administration of the estate, Alessandro, in 1987, toke over the management and the administration of the Castello Sonnino estate. Today the total production of wine is approximately of 350.000 bottles.
